Comedian Felipe Esparza will bring the laughs to The Novo by Microsoft in downtown Los Angeles for two shows on March 23 at 7 p.m. and 10 p.m. PT. The “Last Comic Standing” 2010 winner’s rise to comedic fame began after winning the series title and going on to sell out live stand-up shows all over the country.
Esparza’s success story reads like somewhat of a fairy tale, given his challenging background. The comedian and actor overcame a drug addiction at a young age and listed “be a stand-up comedian” on a list of 5 life goals which someone prompted him to write. He was raised in the projects in a gang-infested neighborhood and became a teenage father. Esparza's love of comedy was inspired by a Bill Cosby album. He entered NBC’s popular reality competition “Last Comic Standing” and won in 2010. Since then, he's produced two hour-long stand-up specials, the most recent being produced with his wife Lesa called “Translate This.” It premiered on HBO last September. (You can watch a teaser trailer of the HBO special in the attached video).
Esparza has also made several TV guest appearances in shows such as “Superstore,” “The Eric Andre Show,” “World’s Dumbest” and more. He currently hosts a weekly podcast on the All Things Comedy Network called “What’s Up Fool?”which features interesting stories from “just about anybody.” In a recent AXS interview, Esparza described his stand-up routine by saying, “I make people feel like the person they see on stage is someone they know.”
